Partner

When I married Chet 5 1/2 years ago, I knew what I was in for.....life with a man who is determined, smart, witty, ambitious, an over-achiever, caring, UN-selfish, optimistic, Christian, handsome, can't ever say no to anybody.....basically, the best partner I could ask for.

It's no lie he's had several different jobs during our time together, and to say he's succeeded at each and every one of them would be an understatement. It just seems as if one job led him to another, which has opened the door and led him to another.

He has been at his current job going on 4 1/2 years, which probably feels like 10 years to him. He goes to work every day with a positive attitude and always, always, always puts the firm's and clients' best interest first, just as he does with our family. He works hard and works a lot, but it's all been for one reason - to take care of us. I love and respect him so much for that.

Recently, all of his long hours and hard work have paid off in a big, big way - he was offered a partnership in his firm. Is there a word bigger than proud because I am OVER THE MOON excited for him! It's been a big secret for quite some time, and now that the "cats out of the bag" it's busy season and the baby is almost here so we haven't even had time to celebrate (kinda like when you first find out you're pregnant - you and significant others know, but you don't tell anyone else for weeks, then it's like it really isn't even that big of a deal). I'm sorry, babe.

Chet, I hope you know how truly happy I am for you. You work so hard for our family and rarely get/take the credit you deserve. Our family, the firm, and your clients are so blessed to have you working for our/their team. And what's crazy is I know this isn't it for you, it's just the beginning. I am so, SO PROUD.....not just of your accomplishments, but for the father you are to our kids and the partner you are to me. We love you!

Below is what was sent out in his firm's newsletter.

New moves

Oh how good it is to be back in a routine. Our laziness started with the holidays and only got worse when the kids were sick. But now that everyone is healthy, we are back on track, and I love it! We need our routine....I need our routine.

Today, was Reese's first time back to dance in nearly a month! She was so excited to show me all her new moves when we got home.

And the new moves continued all evening long!

She even attempted a cartwheel, which didn't last long since a) she had no idea what she was doing, b) she refused to let me help her, and c) she HATES to be upside down. Where that all came from, I have no idea.

Little man was having some fun of his own.....

He really is a baby lover. But also ALL BOY!

Good times with the soon-to-be big, big sister!

Can't wait to see next week's new moves!

36 weeks

I had Chet snap a belly pic before church since I was actually dressed in something other than sweats.

Pregnancy Highlights:
How far along: 36 weeks...wow! We go to the doctor every Monday from here on out until the baby is born, which is only 2 more Mondays! Feb. 7th baby will be here!

Size of baby: 6 pounds and 18 1/2 inches.
Total weight gain: 34 pounds. I keep thinking I've gained a ton, which I have, but I'm right on track with what I gained with Reese and Cru.
Maternity clothes: I pretty much only wear sweats these days, except to church, and I've had to resort to wearing Chet's t-shirts because mine suffocate my belly.
Gender: ?
Movement: It's getting pretty uncomfortable. The head has been down for a while now, and man, is it low.....flailing arms are pretty painful.
Sleep: Typical night - Usually go to bed around 11:30, toss and turn, toss and turn, stare at the light peeping through our cracked door, turn to the other side, stare at the monitor lights, think of everything I need to get done. Must have finally fallen asleep, but wake up in a panic....what's that? Is it Reese, does she need something.....I swear I see people in my sleep.....kinda creepy. Toss and turn, fall back asleep. Hear Cru crying out. Go check on him. Pit stop on my way back. Toss and turn, stare at the peeping light some more, fall asleep, hear Reese in the monitor, walk like a zombie down stairs....Reese, what do you need? Nothing. Go back up stairs, pit stop, toss and turn, make lists in my head, make lists on my phone, toss and turn, get up and watch cmt in the living room for about a half hour and decide I could be trying to fall asleep. Head back to the bedroom, pit stop, toss and turn, there goes Chet's alarm, fall asleep while Chet's getting ready, Cru's awake, get up and start the day.
Symptoms: Acid reflux, emotional, uncomfortable, out of breath
What I miss: Bending over....I need a pedi so bad before baby's arrival, but I can't reach my feet.
Cravings: Sweettarts :)
Best moment of the week: Spending as much quality time with Reese and Cru as I can. I sure am going to miss our after-doctor-appointments-breakfasts-at-McDonald's.

What I'm looking forward to: Getting the bedrooms finished up and in order. But most of all, I'm getting so anxious and excited about meeting this new little one. I can't imagine what he/she will be like....just makes me gitty. But also scared at the same time; I hope I can handle all the chaos that's about to hit this family!

Like I said before, I'm looking forward to getting the other bedrooms in order. My parents came over last Friday evening for a pizza and painting party. My mom and I played with the kids while Chet and my dad painted Cru's new room....that's a huge check off the list. Thanks Dad and Chet!!!!

Sorry, little man, you just get to pretend paint.

So far, Cru is loving his new room.....just an open room to run, play, throw balls, and scream in.

Cru isn't making the big move quite yet because we haven't made a decision on his big boy bed yet, so I'm just taking it in strides. I hope to tackle his closet first, then I'll work on adding pieces of furniture/toys, and then hopefully a bed.

It'll be onto the baby's room after that, which doesn't really require much except a little closet organization and finishing up some DIY projects I've been working on.

Like I need reminding, but I've only got 3 more weeks to do all this!!!!!

And just for some added delight, how handsome is my little man? (and big man!)

Just want to eat him up!

Fun with fabric

What I love most about my Bows & Bands is that I can basically keep as busy (or as non-busy) as I want. And lately I have been busy! Maybe it's a way of me nesting or maybe it's because Sassybags has zero of my inventory left or maybe it's me wanting to learn new things.....whatever the reason, I love it. I love having something that's "work" besides my normal every day "work." Makes me feel like I actually have some sort of purpose.

This has actually felt a little bit more like work lately because I've been teaching myself how to make everything out of fabric!

I've been running all my new creations by Reese.....this has been her favorite by far.

I just love the retro look....

and the vintage look.

I got to play with fire when making this :)

Another fav of Reese's.

I've still got several new creations that are in progress, so hopefully I'll have more to show soon. And just as soon as I get them finished, they'll be for sale!

Reese's new room!

The kids' bedroom situation has been a topic of discussion for quite some time now. I automatically assumed Reese would move to the basement. Chet, on the other hand, had another idea - the kids could share a room. Is he crazy?! He had logical reasons for not wanting to put Reese (or even Cru for that matter) downstairs, but I just couldn't see them sharing a room; they are so different. So, downstairs Reese went.

Before, the room was our office/bows and bands/guest room. I don't have pictures of it filled, but it had a corner desk, my huge art desk, and a futon in it. The closet was also used for storage....full of fun stuff for little man to play with.

I started hyping up the whole "move" to Reese quite a while ago, even letting her pick out the paint color - Cinderella blue, as she calls it. One day she would be excited, the next day she would tell me to put the baby down there.

The week between Christmas and New Year's was about the last of Chet's free time before busy season, so we got down to business.....some of us. A big thanks to my dad, who helped Chet paint.

This is the wall you see when you walk through the door. Everything is from her old room except the curtains, which she picked out all by herself (and I love them!), and the storage bench below the curtains, which I also love!

Across from the window wall is her bed. She didn't waste any time getting all her "friends" settled in with her.

She loves her canopy thingy that Aunty Chancey gave her before she moved to Florida.

This is the wall you see when looking out from the closet.

Since taking the picture, I've added some things to the shelf, but the wall still needs some work. I knew her new vanity would be perfect in this room!

Straight across from that wall is her closet, which Daddy totally transformed.....no more golf clubs, bassinet, computer, and whatever else was in there.

I like to organize using fun baskets, and I found all these that I used in her closet at Land of Nod. I'm really happy with them.

The girl isn't hurtin' for clothes, that's for sure.

And lastly, but certainly not least, the escape window. It was one of the first things I worried about when I thought about her moving down there; it's so creepy and gross and usually filled with spiders, spider webs, and the occasional dead mouse, so I called upon my dad to help fix that problem.

Once again, I let Reese decide on the picture, then Grandpa made it happen. She LOVES it! Loves it so much she didn't want her curtains put back up. But we did.

So, she's been down there nearly two weeks now, and doing great even while sick. The first night, she cried for a while and really wanted Chet to sleep down there with her. He decided if he did that once, he'd have to do it every night, so he told her he had to sleep with me because we were married, so then she wanted to be married. But really she's done so well, it hasn't even felt like an adjustment. I knew she'd do great!

I actually think the move has been harder on me. I haven't slept at all. Plus, she was in such a good routine of taking her shoes, coat, backpack, and whatever else to her room as soon as she walked in the door. Not so much anymore. And I find myself having to make ump-teen trips up and down the stairs, and maybe it's just my "state" but it's a pain in the butt. Oh well, I take the bad with the good, I guess.

So, now all I can think about is moving Cru to Reese's old room.....awww, Reese's old room, lets not forget about it.....

Up until Sunday, that's what it looked like. Yeah, I think Chet was right, maybe I did overdo it on Sunday causing contractions (which the doctor thought were real not braxton hicks, but that's a whole other issue). But it is all cleaned out and ready to be transformed into a little big boy's room.....now that's a move I am certainly not ready for.
